HEKARI PNG FC

Club History
“OUR PASSION HIS GLORY”
Hekari United FC has long been a symbol of football excellence in Papua New Guinea. Founded in the early 2000s, the club made history by becoming the first Pacific Island team outside of New Zealand and Australia to win the OFC Champions League in 2010. That historic victory earned them a spot at the FIFA Club World Cup and placed PNG football on the global stage. Over the years, Hekari dominated the domestic competition and became a household name, building a strong legacy of discipline, professionalism, and success.
As football in the region evolved, so did the ambitions of the club. In 2025, Hekari PNG FC was established as a new entity—built on the foundation and values of the original club—to align with the growing vision for a fully professional league in the Oceania region. The original Hekari United now functions as a feeder club, developing grassroots talent and supporting the pathway to the elite level.
Under the leadership of Wira Wama, Hekari PNG FC is driving a bold bid to secure a place in the new Oceania Pro League. Their focus is on combining strong administration, player development, and modern football infrastructure to meet the professional standards required. The journey from a local champion to a club aiming for regional professionalism is a story of resilience, reinvention, and ambition.
